As we revel in our rich musical legacy and dive head first into our bountiful calypso repository to tell our story and make a statement now in a brand new style. in the words of the late great brother resistance, is time to swing the ting from Rapso to Kaiso… Yes swing the ting… and make some style and also make a statement or two. Statements from the heart and soul, “by calypso our stories are told”…
From the griot to the chantwell, to the calypsonian, to the rapso man and the singers of soca in it’s many iterations, from trinibad to zess the tradition lives on, from generation to generation, constantly embracing innovation. in the midst of all this change there is a ‘constant’ at play; as the intent remains the same, as it was in the beginning… the edification of the children and the healing of the nation, through the power of the living vibration…
As proud inheritors of the GRIOT/KAISO/CALYPSO/RAPSO tradition. We come together once again in the spirit of the carnival, the people’s festival, the annual ritual of liberation and freedom and celebration and affirmation of self. To bear witness; beyond the bacchanal and confusion and give voice + expression to the burning issues and concerns of today and claim a space and make a statement IN WORD AND MELODY AND RHYTHM AND RHYME AND oF COURSE PLENTY PLENTY STYLE…
